Welcome to Leslieville

"The idea of finding new, domestic uses for old industrial materials seems to unify everything in the shop. From the vintage Toronto maps, which have been mounted, covered with a thick layer of resin, and stamped with numbers or letters from Flynn's collection of Letraset ($225 for 8x10), to the pained blue architect's chair ($325) that would add a great eclectic element to a conventional kitchen bar, everything has been restored for a fresh take."

"Artist and designer Christine Flynn’s new Leslieville shop Love The Design combines 1920s gallic chic with an industrial edge, then adds a bit of shine...

Flynn seems to have chosen a good spot for foot traffic, and a collegial group of fellow retailers. Customers might spot her photographs while dining at nearby Ruby WatchCo (or La Merceria across town), or recognize her equestrian-themed portraits mixed in with modern furnishings at Flik By Design next door. Flik owner Stephan Howard supplies much of Love the Design’s mid-century, vintage and reproduction furniture pieces such as clear acrylic mid-century reproduction nesting and side tables ($220-$425) or curvy transparent Eiffel chairs. Howard is clearly feeling tangy this season: the inspiration from stacks of orange Hermès boxes in his sliver of a shop carries over to his orange upholstered Louis dining chairs in the window display at Love the Design, backed with coffee bean bag burlap, the stamped lettering framed by the chair backs."
